Money in Steal An Egg comes from one thing: the $/s of the pets sitting in your pen slots. The fastest way to raise it is to unlock the next biome as early as possible, because each biome’s best pets earn roughly 10x to 100x what the previous one’s do. Speed unlocks biomes, so most early cash should go into Speed.
How income actually works
- Each equipped pet pays its $/s continuously, including while you are on the treadmill, in a biome, or logged out. An empty pen slot pays nothing.
- A pet’s $/s is base income x mutation x size. Size (weight) has the biggest range: about 4x at 10x base weight, about 19.6x at 125x.
- Every egg also pays a one-time hatch reward of Speed and cash. The wiki mirror says the cash part equals 100 seconds of that pet’s income.
- Your pen has a fixed number of slots. Pen Level 2 costs $1K and Level 3 costs $1M (allthings.how); a late-game “+1 EQUIP” upgrade costs $75M. We could not find a full price list for the levels in between.
Because slots are limited, the rule is simple: whenever you hatch something better than your weakest equipped pet, swap it in. Ten Chickens are worth $10/s. One Brr Brr Patapim is worth $1.8K/s.
Step 1: Claim the free 10,000 Speed
Like the game, favorite it, and join the developer’s Roblox group. Together these give 10,000 Speed. That clears the Lake requirement (900) and, on paper, Desert’s listed 10K. There are no codes in the game, so this gift is the biggest free boost you can get (see codes).
Step 2: Forest and Lake, then cheap Speed upgrades
Steal the biggest Forest egg you can carry. Forest grow times are short: Chicken 10s, Bear 2m, Brr Brr Patapim 5m. Lake’s top pet, Leviathan ($220K/s), takes 25 minutes and is a huge jump if you can get one.
Spend your first cash in this order:
| Purchase | Cost | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Pen Level 2 | $1K | One more earning pet (exact slot count not published) |
| Grey Trail | $100 | 1.5x Speed gain |
| Green Trail | $5K | 2x Speed gain |
| Sci-Fi Treadmill | $15K | +5 Speed per step (base treadmill is +2) |
| Blue Trail | $75K | 2.5x Speed gain |
| Flame Treadmill | $250K | +12 per step |
| Pen Level 3 | $1M | More slots |
| Purple Trail | $1.5M | 3x Speed gain |
| Celebrity Treadmill | $5M | +30 per step |
Trails multiply the Speed you gain, so a $100 trail is the best value in the game early on.
Step 3: Let eggs do the Speed work
Treadmill steps are slow compared with egg rewards. Some numbers from the wiki mirror:
| Egg | Speed reward | Cash reward | Grow time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chicken (Forest) | +420 | $100 | 10s |
| Frog (Lake) | +2K | $300 | 15s |
| Jerboa (Desert) | +7.2K | not listed | not listed |
| Penguin (Snow) | +12.8K | not listed | not listed |
| Lava Gecko (Volcano) | +24K | not listed | not listed |
| Dodo (Prehistoric) | +240K | $28K | 1m 30s |
| Centapede (Cosmic) | +960K | $150K | 2m |
Compare that with walking: on the Sci-Fi Treadmill with the Green Trail you gain about 10 Speed per step, so a single Jerboa hatch equals around 720 steps. The fastest route to Jungle (40K) is to farm cheap, fast-growing Desert eggs, not to stand on the treadmill.
So in every new biome: grab the small fast eggs first for Speed, and only commit pen time to the slow big eggs once you have a slot to spare.
Step 4: Biome targets
| Biome | Speed needed | Best nest pet (base $/s) |
|---|---|---|
| Desert | 10K | Royal Sphinx ($280K) |
| Jungle | 40K | King Snake ($3.5M) |
| Snow | 170K | Ice Dragon ($65M) |
| Volcano | 700K | Lava Dragon ($100M) |
| Abyss Ocean | 2.5M | El Maja ($130M) |
| Prehistoric | 18M | Mosasaurus ($180M) |
| Cosmic | 700M | Unicorn ($1B) |
| Cherry Blossom | 2.5B | Kitsune ($1.8B) |
| Titan Temple | 7B | Nightflame ($3B) |
| Angels & Demons | 20B | Aetheron ($6.9B) |
| Enchanted Forest | 50B | Spirit World Guardian ($15B) |
Higher biomes have faster guardians, and heavy eggs slow you down, so having Speed well above the minimum makes the run back safer. The full list is on the pets list.
Step 5: Pick eggs by size, not color
The wiki says egg color is cosmetic and size is what raises the pet’s value. A bigger egg is heavier and slows you, but the payoff is large. A pet at 10x weight earns 4.14x; a normal-weight Rainbow earns 3.5x. Put your numbers into the income calculator to see the difference for a specific pet.
Mutation consumables (Fractured from Rift bosses, Scrambled from Dr. Scramble) have a 10% success chance and are consumed on failure, so use them only on your best pet. Details on the mutations page.
Step 6: Use the timers
- Nests reset about every 5 minutes. If someone beats you to an egg, wait for the reset instead of chasing.
- Rare eggs are announced in chat, and the fastest player usually wins. Sorting the server list by fewest players gives you less competition; servers hold up to 7 players.
- Bear traps can be placed only while holding an egg, up to 3 at a time, and catch a chasing player for 7 seconds.
- Rifts, Dr. Scramble and the Nitro Race each run every 30 minutes. Boss wins give Boss Tokens, Samples and Boss Mastery points. Mastery milestones give free pets, ending with Pink Dragon Experiment #010 ($2.5B/s base) at 100 points.
- Admin Abuse sessions (usually Saturdays) boost egg spawns, luck and income for everyone in the server. Join early, servers fill fast. Timing is on the events schedule.
Robux: what is and is not needed
The wiki mirror’s beginner guide says no Robux purchase is needed to progress. If you do spend, the x2 Growth gamepass (467 Robux per allthings.how) is the one that affects money directly, because it halves grow times and so doubles how often you can cycle eggs through your pen. We have not seen a published Robux price list for Speed packs or Robux eggs outside the Halloween Egg (99 Robux for one, community-reported).
What we could not confirm
- Whether offline income is paid at the full rate. Players see login messages like “You earn $16M/Day offline!”, but no source states the rate.
- Pen level prices between Level 3 and Level 11 (the mirror lists only Level 11 at 500T and Level 12 at 5Qa).
- Rebirths. Several “rebirth calculator” pages exist, but neither the wiki mirror nor any of the guides we checked document a rebirth system in Steal An Egg. Progression is gated by Speed. Treat any rebirth cost you see quoted as unverified.
- A night-time growth boost. One guide (timesaver.gg) says eggs grow up to 30x faster at night, which it says comes roughly every 4.5 minutes. No second source confirms this.
